Last weekend, Hong Kong hosted the event of the year for the Bored and Mutant Ape Yacht Club community: the Ape Fest. From November 3rd to 5th, a multitude of Apes from across the globe landed in the asiatic metropolis for meetups, exclusive experiences, and exciting side events.

Intraverse’s presence couldn’t miss. The Swiss startup operating in Web3 Gaming organized the Ape League, an unforgettable official side event of Ape Fest. After the success of Bored Lugano – during the first edition of NFT Fest Lugano – and Italy’s Finest – on the occasion of ETH Milan – Intraverse didn’t stop and it brought its format to the other side of the world. The concept of Ape League has been a blast also in Hong Kong, and it has been elevated by a huge partnership between Intraverse and Animoca Brands, the global leader in blockchain and Web3 gaming, Wreck League by nWay, Arc8 by GAMEE, and Phantom Galaxies by Blowfish Studios.

The Ape League Experience

Took place on November 4th at the exclusive House Studio within Soho House Hong Kong, Ape League has been an unforgettable experience for the Ape community. More than 300 attendees have been registered from around the world and cherry on the cake, Daniel Alegre, CEO of Yuga Labs, and Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay, joined the event adding a touch of prestige. The House Studio was transformed into a battleground with professional gaming stations equipped with 55-inch screens. The event started in the morning and it lasted until 4 PM, ensuring a full day of immersive gaming experiences, networking, and surprises. Free-flowing pizza, snacks, and waterfalls of beer completed the atmosphere.

A variety of eight gaming stations awaited participants, giving them the possibility to experience the best Web3 games of the moment. Two PCs have been connected and dedicated to Wreck League: people could select their mech and fight in a 1-vs-1 duel trying to win rewards like customized keyboard pads, stickers or pro gamer mouses. A gaming station hosted The Nemesis, in particular – among the multiple experiences offered in their metaverse – players could experience the new gameplay called “Duel Arena”, that has been launched on the occasion of the famous festival “Lucca Comics”. People could use a 3D avatar featured as an Ape and select their preferred weapon to fight against other characters in a timed duel. Two iPads have been set up with the mobile application of Arc8, which offered guests a variety of engaging games for players with different skill levels, from the classic solitaire, to gambling games, puzzles, battles or adventures. Also, a pre-release of Phantom Galaxies has been installed on another gaming station: people could select a 3D avatar and enter a spaceship which was the starting point for an interspace launch. Here, the avatar became a robot which could navigate and explore the galaxy, choosing different routes to take, fighting against enemies and reaching new galaxies.

The House Studio has also been arranged with booths where the main sponsors of the event could present their proposals with “MADE BY APES” licenses. In particular, WoV Labs, specialized in the development of services combining blockchain and IoT technology, offered guests a starting kit of NFC tags that people could use to instantly mint their clothes and have them traceable in the blockchain. Also, Mutants Beer brought its green beers generating enthusiasm among the guests and providing them with a lot of customized gadgets.

The exclusive Ape Tournament hosted in the Intraverse Gaming Arena

The Intraverse Game was playable in two different gaming stations using joysticks or keyboards. In the first half of the event, guests have been invited to do some training and experience the gameplay proposed by Intraverse. Then, 35 Apes have been selected to compete in a 1-vs-1 eliminatory street fighter tournament using the 3D avatars ad hoc designed by Intraverse starting from the pfp of each Ape. This was above all expectations, being the most captivating moment of the whole event.

The well-known ape Squiddy (@SquiddyNFT) has been the Master of Ceremony. Squiddy is THE Community Maestro of Web3 gaming. With an infectious energy and passion for people, he’s been one of the OG builders of the space, with a notable track record, including NBA Top Shot, Champions Ascension, and serving as an advisor for Superfine and The Wardens guild. He put all his energy in directing the tournament, involving all the guests in actively attending the tournament cheering on the players.

The Ape League didn’t end within the walls of SoHo House. A new week and a new Crypto Horoscope for the week of 30th October to 5th November.

This week we are in the heart of the Scorpio season.

For several months now we have been dedicating space to the crypto horoscope written by Stefania Stimolo, an expert in astrology and blockchain. It is a weekly column with the horoscope of each sign of the zodiac, available every Sunday only on The Cryptonomist.

The event took place on October 12th and 13th, and we also participated as Media Partner.

During the conference, we interviewed Trezor CEO, Matěj Žák, who gave us more details about the new products family and some insights for the company’s future.

Good afternoon Matěj and thank you for receiving us. Let’s start introducing the new Trezor Safe family! 

Sure! Let’s start with the Trezor Safe 3, which is our entry-level hardware wallet. We basically continued rebuilding on the previous model, which is the Trezor Model One, the first hardware wallet in the world. 

We try to keep the same sort of minimalistic, form factor, and small set of design, with the vision to keep it really simple. 

The device has two buttons and a beautiful back, which comes in four different premium colors: Cosmic Black, Galactic Rose, Stellar Silver, and Solar Gold.    

Furthermore, it features a bright OLED display and is USB-C compatible. 

The new Trezor Safe 3 compared to the Model One is more user-friendly, because we added some software updates, like the firmware updates, which make it much easier to use. 

Then, thanks to the OLED screen, it is more clear to interact with. Of course, Model One has a screen as well, but we made the firmware to be even better. 

And, last but not least, it is more beautiful!

So, for just $10 more you can grab all those things.

We are actually really satisfied!

Inside the new device, there is also a Secure Element, which is a specific chip that basically helps to protect the device against physical attacks. 

It means that if somebody steals the device with very sophisticated equipment, and they try to get the secret out of the chip, the Secure Element would make it more difficult for them to do so. 

Keep in mind that this Secure Element is only available in the new Trezor Safe 3.        

By the way, we still recommend, as I said during the announcement made on the main stage at Bitcoin Amsterdam, to also use the passphrase.

What is perhaps interesting about this Secure Element here, is that we chose a vendor where we haven’t had to sign any NDA. And what that means is quite important. 

The fact that we didn’t sign any NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) means that if we or any security expert find any issues with the Secure Element, we can openly talk about that and fix it. 

Hence, we can deploy and fix the vulnerability, which is not usually the case. 

Instead, if you choose a supplier where you have to sign a NDA, they will forbid you from disclosing any discovered vulnerabilities. They can fix it, but, most important, you can not talk about it. These are the kinds of things that can endanger users, mainly in the crypto world. 

That’s why we want to remain open. 

We want to openly discuss with our community about the fact that certain issues may exist!

According to your experience, what makes the new Trezor Safe 3 unique in the market?

We tried to make it as accessible as possible and really affordable, mainly for entry-level users. 

Indeed, the retail price is set at $79.

It is fairly affordable, highly secure, and easy-to-use. 

That’s the whole idea behind the product design.

Trezor Safe 3 supports Shamir Backup, FIDO2 Standard, and U2F, which can currently be associated with Google, GitHub, and Dropbox. 

Users will be able to keep using the coinjoin feature to enhance their transactional privacy. Trezor coinjoin is easy to execute thanks to our companion app Trezor Suite.

Will the new product come out with a new version of the Trezor Suite app? 

Those are kind of separate things. Well, the main answer is yes, but basically, Trezor Suite is updated monthly.

Thus, every month we release a new version for all the hardware wallets that we have ever sold. 

And of course, the software of the Suite app is open-source as well.

During the announcement at Bitcoin Amsterdam, you also talked about the importance of open-source, defining the new Trezor Safe 3 as “STUBBORNLY OPEN-SOURCE”. Will the new product continue this tradition, and how do you see open-source contributing to its success?

How open-source contributes to success is exactly what I talked about in the presentation.

It depends on these two factors: it helps to improve security, because more people are looking “into your kitchen”. Even competitors, right? So, there will be competitors trying to hack this and it is good for the overall security. Because we provide an open-source environment, you can really check how it is done and if it is done well.

The second reason is quite like sharing. Thanks to these innovations and the way we do things, others can learn from us and they could even improve their products.

Just like Bitcoin, right? At the beginning, of course, it was not as useful as now because now it scales, it’s more secure and more visible. I think that’s one of the greatest examples we can make today. 

The new device adds another layer of security brought to the next level with the introduction of a special product. Could you tell us more about the new Trezor Keep Metal? 

Since private keys are so important, we need to back them up securely: the device gives you a recovery seed in the form of an ordered list of words, and you need to keep this recovery seed safe and that’s why we tried to find something very easy-to-use and durable as well.

Trezor Keep Metal is made of aerospace-grade stainless steel and it protects the recovery seed backup against fire, water, acids, and impacts.

With our team, we actually tried to burn it, but nothing happened!

It will be available in three different versions: 12-word Recovery Seed, 24-word Recovery Seed, and 20-word Shamir Backup.

Your choice really depends on your needs. The retail price is still very affordable and it starts from $99.

This new product definitely improves the way we store our passphrase and increases security against certain attacks.

The new Trezor Safe 3 has also a Bitcoin-only limited edition: may you tell us more details about it and the incredible initiative behind the product?

We wanted to do something for bitcoiners and we were kind of looking for a way how we can celebrate Trezor’s 10th anniversary.

That’s where the idea of the 2013 pieces limited edition came out: it is indeed the year when we started with our company.

We thought it would be a great idea to do a Bitcoin-only version. 

We also have a Bitcoin firmware that you can still use on our other devices. But the idea here was to do it also on the hardware level. So, that’s why you have the beautiful bitcoin-orange back with the new Trezor Safe 3 Bitcoin-only wallet. 

We also thought of doing something special for the occasion: €21 from every order goes to what we call Trezor Academy, which is our educational initiative. 

Trezor Academy aims to spread Bitcoin knowledge in places where it is needed the most – the unprivileged countries in the Global South, where fiat currency fails to serve the basic purposes of money. Trezor Academy teaches the basics of Bitcoin and how to work with it in a secure manner.

Let’s talk about something the whole sector is struggling for: mass adoption. Growth in Web3 active users plays a crucial role in this industry. How does the new product aim to provide a seamless and friendly user experience for both beginners and expert users? 

The security level is basically the same for everybody, right? So, the idea is that the device should be secure, no matter whether you are an expert or a newcomer.

What makes it really easy-to-use is the good job on the firmware we’ve done.

Once you get to know, it is quite easy to understand all the information that is in there. The device is connected to the Trezor Suite app and the interface is easy to navigate and very intuitive to use!

On the other hand, we worked hard to make every product extremely catchy, trying to get closer to the Apple-like user experience. 

The idea is that, especially if you are coming from the exchanges, where you would want to buy more BTC or sell and swap some cryptocurrencies, you can still do it in Trezor Suite, but with a high-standard security level.

NFTs also represent a big piece of cake in the Web3 world.

At the moment, Trezor models don’t support natively NFTs and we are not planning to visually support them in Trezor Suite, but there are a lot of third-party apps, like MetaMask, that you can securely use with Trezor.

Thus, you have both the security level given by the hardware wallet and the whole Web3 experience. In that way, you can still interact with NFTs within the digital art or GameFi sector, being truly interconnected with Web3. 

The whole crypto sector is experiencing some pressures caused by unclear regulation, mainly in the US. Do you feel any kind of worrying or threats about the actual regulatory landscape? 

Honestly, it is not truly relevant for us what is happening in the US. 

The reason is that our devices store the private keys, and that’s it. And those private keys can be from whatever cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin. 

Thus, we are not heavily affected by the different laws in any way, because we are “just” the hardware that keeps certain data secure, right? 

So, from that sense, we are not worried or anything, and we will see where it goes. 

I think it is more something related to the market sentiment, or that could prove to be difficult, where these things may do bad marketing for crypto and for bitcoin.

Newcomers might not feel the differences between them, and then there’s some bad press about “crypto being bad”.

For these kinds of reasons, beginners may find some difficulties entering the market in that sense.

What are the long-term goals and vision for Trezor, and how do the new products fit into that broader strategy? 

Firstly, of course, we are on the mission to make crypto security easy for everyone. That’s the main target from a general point of view. 

Today, we are releasing these products and they will be part of a new family.  

So, the idea is to keep going in this direction! 

I love thinking that we are just getting started.

At this time it has already been a few hours since pre-orders began. Do you already have any interesting numbers or feedback for us?

Feedback is very positive.

I can feel like our booth is pretty booming and there are a lot of people coming.

I mean, it is absolutely great. Honestly, we are very happy about this. 

We don’t usually share detailed data, but what I can only say is that within the first two hours, we sold hundreds of devices, especially the Bitcoin-only version.

We are extremely proud of it and I think it is going to be sold-out probably in the next few days, I assume.

This is just incredible. Those were Matěj’s words, and only a few days later Trezor announced that the Bitcoin-only version was sold out in 24 hours.

Insights & Future Plans

Right now, the Secure Element is not open source at the hardware level, which is actually a standard in the industry (an EAL6+ chip in our case). But we use this Secure Element chip in a manner that allows us to remain transparent, and all the code interacting with private keys is fully open.

By the way, we are working together with another SatoshiLabs’ company on a transparent Secure Element.

The thing is, it is a very difficult and long project to create your own chip. It will probably take one or two more years to be ready for production. 

When it will be ready, we will implement it into all our hardware wallets. 

We are actually very proud of what we are working on.

Furthermore, as part of our broader strategy, we will keep adding more and more devices into our rings. For example, we will have Trezor Safe “X” and other versions of Trezor Keep in the future.

The inaugural Future Go Tech Summit was held on 6-7 October in Istanbul — in the words of the host Stewart Rogers, “at the crossroads of the world”. The summit was devoted to the richest opportunities, toughest challenges, and most pressing issues in the tech world. 

Over the course of two days, DasDas, a prestigious cultural venue in Istanbul, welcomed esteemed guests and tech visionaries from more than 30 countries all over the globe including the US, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Singapore, UAE, and many more.

One of Westminster’s most vocal MP’s on the topic of crypto and digital assets, Dr Lisa Cameron MP, noted that there is a “12 month window to make the UK the hub of digital innovation”, but only if jurisdictions are passed that facilitate momentum from investors, consumers and companies. Cameron concluded that the ecosystem is at a “pivotal moment” and explained that there is a “huge opportunity in the UK” to lay the foundations for an inclusive digital generation in future. 

Steven Bartlett further addressed the problem, by stating that while there is an important balancing act between protecting society but not stifling innovation, the UK does risk industry leading companies within the space taking ideas away from the UK and heading to countries like Dubai with more 

favourable regulation. 

It’s impossible to predict the future of AI – Call for collective responsibility to foster an AI with ethical considerations 

Both Steven Bartlett and Mo Gawdat, AI expert and bestselling author, spoke separately on the rapid pace of change within AI technologies and were aligned on how no one is in a position to advise on its capabilities or how it may evolve in the future. Web3 is set to heavily incorporate AI into its ecosystem, to which Mo stated there was a “collective responsibility” to teach AI, speaking on the importance of individuals interacting ethically with the machines. He further explained that “humans make decisions based on our ethics and values” which are informed by our intelligence and that we need to ensure a similar thought process is learned by the machines. 

Coinbase double down on ‘International First’ policy with the goal to reach another billion people 

Coinbase’s VP for International Policy, Tom Duff Gordon, confirmed that international expansion was a primary goal for the company in light of the current Web3 landscape in the US. He said, “we want to bring a billion people into crypto, we’re all about economic freedom,” underlying their “international first mentality” which follows the unveiling of its “Go Broad, Go Deep” strategy  previously announced and subsequently secured partnerships with the Bank of Spain and The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Similarly, Blockchain.com, Bitget and Zodia discussed their respective investment strategies into innovation that facilitate global adoption, for both institutions and consumers, highlighting the importance of making trading more accessible and secure. Tal Kol, Founder of Orbs, similarly spoke on the significance of Layer 3 blockchains and the tools required for the next cycle of widespread adoption.  

Blockchain provides verification in an era of digital misinformation 

In a world where hacking, deep fakes and AI generated materials are raising a conversation on how this impacts misinformation, particularly within the political and news environments, verification of information and assets have never been more important. Steven Barlett, voiced concern about the near term risks of seeing and believing what is on the internet before stating that “more people are scammed with cash than crypto” and that blockchain technology is one of the only solutions to verify authentic information or news. 

Renowned macro investor and CEO of Real Vision Media, Raoul Pal, added that “blockchain creates digital scarcity” which in turn creates value as the collective continues to move to a digital world. Developers of Polkadot, the blockspace ecosystem for boundless innovation, will start testing a new process that will provide radical scaling solutions for the network within a matter of weeks.

The plans were unveiled at sub0, the Polkadot Developer Conference, by Sophia Gold, Engineering Lead at Parity Technologies, a leading contributor to Polkadot.

She said asynchronous backing would enable Polkadot to more than triple its number of validators by the end of 2024 to around 1,000, describing this as “the most significant evolution of parachain consensus since we launched parachains almost two years ago.”

She added:

“What’s unique about backing in Polkadot is that it’s enshrined – it’s implemented natively on the protocol level and not on the smart contract level, which gives us capital efficiency and censorship resistance. Asynchronous backing enables flexible scheduling for our future scaling work through elastic scaling and instantaneous coretime. We have a credible roadmap to get Polkadot to support 1,000 parachains and 1m+ transactions per second. The design is there – we know how to scale Polkadot for the indefinite future.”

A release of asynchronous backing is due to be deployed to Polkadot’s Rococo testnet in about two weeks.

Habermeier expands blockspace narrative

Sophia Gold was followed on-stage by Polkadot cofounder Robert Habermeier, who unveiled new concepts and architectural components that would enable roadmap features first outlined at Polkadot Decoded in June.

These features, including those known as ‘agile coretime’ and ‘elastic scaling’, would enable more flexible and efficient use of Polkadot’s blockspace and computing power, better serving innovators at all stages of growth, and taking the network beyond the existing parachain model.

He outlined a proposal for a new process of submitting work to Polkadot that would enable the network to process a much wider range of activity than parachains alone, including the ability to deploy smart contracts directly to a Polkadot core.

He explained:

“This is how you would get to the point of cores being used by different parachains or bundled in all these different ways without having to enshrine that directly into Polkadot’s protocol. Rather, we make it possible through experimentation at higher levels.”

This new model would also enable a much anticipated feature known as atomic composability, enabling simultaneous execution of operations from multiple parachains at a time for more complex cross-chain transactions.

Accelerating smart contract delivery

The second day provided some important updates on the work carried out by OpenZeppelin on the OpenBrush contract library, intended to ease the development of Polkadot’s native ink! smart contracts. This includes the creation of easily implementable and extensible smart contract standards and translating Solidity contracts into ink!.

Felix Wegener, Security Services Manager of OpenZeppelin, said:

“We made suggestions on how to change design choices, tooling, upgradeability and macros, and moving forward we see great promise in the ongoing developments of the Polkadot ecosystem.”

João Santos, Project Manager of OpenZeppelin, said his team had proposed open-source parachain runtimes and underlying FRAME pallets to accelerate the development and deployment of new and secure parachains.

He added:

“We believe the initial step here is a generic runtime to allow projects to have a common base and start building immediately. Then we can start taking the learning we had developing this runtime, take the community feedback and then think about what’s next.”

New Ledger app coming

Juan Leni, CEO of Zondax, a major software developer for the Ledger hardware wallet, explained how his team is developing a new Ledger app for Polkadot that depends on verifiable metadata. He said:

“I haven’t seen anything similar in other ecosystems. It will feature very minimal updates to the runtimes and to the wallets and the last stage is the audit, which started in June.”

The single Ledger app can support any parachain in the Polkadot ecosystem, a boost for user experience of cold wallets on Polkadot, as previously a separate app was required for each network. The app will feature clear signing of all transactions for maximum security.

His colleague Fernando Theirs said:

“The integration for new parachains should be super simple. If you respect the metadata protocol it should be almost out of the box.”

Attendees also heard how Snowbridge, an Ethereum bridge to be built on the Polkadot Bridge Hub, is in position to deploy on the protocol’s canary network before the end of the year.

The plan is for each parachain to have its own dedicated messaging channel to Ethereum, unlocking a high degree of flexibility. Snowbridge is a trustless, decentralized mechanism for linking the Ethereum and Polkadot ecosystems, and is designed for general purpose.

From September 11th to 12th, 2023, the Web3 Gaming Summit 2023, the official gaming sub-event of Token2049, co-organized by ABGA and DeGame, was grandly inaugurated. This summit served as a convergence point for Web3 gaming enthusiasts and pioneers.

It not only gathered leading figures, developers, investors, and enthusiasts from the global Web3 gaming community but also invited numerous industry leaders from both Web2 and Web3. • Steve Good, CEO and Co-founder of Dreams Quest, showcased the upcoming open-world action-adventure RPG game “Origins: The Fall of Azoria.” He also revealed that to better support the gaming community, Dreams Quest has established a new NFT infrastructure compatible with multiple chains and a new dynamic market.
• Carol Wang, Co-founder and CFO of MarsProtocol, discussed the centralization issues of Ethereum. She noted that liquidity staking currently accounts for 43% of the Ethereum staking market, with Lido dominating with a 74.2% market share. Amazon holds nearly 60% of Ethereum node distribution, making node centralization one of the biggest challenges Ethereum faces. She also introduced potential solutions to this issue.
• Lester Li, founder of DeGame, in his opening speech and presentation in the afternoon, discussed the trends and growth strategies of the Web3 gaming industry. He pointed out that due to the emergence of dedicated blockchain game engines, increased blockchain efficiency, reduced on-chain transaction costs, and the deployment of key technologies like account abstraction and related EIPs, the Web3 gaming infrastructure is continuously evolving. He also stated that the Web3 gaming market is rapidly growing, and in the next two years, more traditional games will turn to blockchain games.
• Hara, CEO of Jasmy Labs, provided a detailed introduction to the Jasmy platform and its core objectives. He also revealed that Jasmy has launched a grant program to support the construction of new community projects. Currently, Jasmy is building the Ethereum-based Layer 2 Jasmy Chain to further enhance scalability and continuously provide quality services.
• Jake Liu, CFO of Planet Hares, shared his views on “How to Extend the Lifecycle of Games through Web3 Mechanisms.” He suggested that through well-designed token economics (Play to Earn and decentralized governance), developers can build a Web3 gaming metaverse to enhance the game’s lifecycle. He also recommended designing a dual-token model to prevent the dilution of governance tokens while maintaining the stability of utility token prices.
• Henry Ferr, CMO of MetaCene, emphasized that Web3 games must be fun to play to compete with mature traditional/Web2 games. He introduced MetaCene and mentioned that the product is dedicated to integrating Web2 and Web3 features to create an innovative gaming platform that caters to the mass market.
• Karen Kao, CMO of BoxTradEx, introduced BoxTradEx, a one-stop Web3 gaming portal offering various games, tournaments and guilds, a task system, and token trading and NFT markets. Their Guild ToolBox is a comprehensive solution for game guilds to manage crypto tokens, NFT assets, add members, and create guild events.
• Jae Kim, BD Director of Luniverse, shared how blockchain games can benefit from multi-chain infrastructure. He introduced that as a node service provider, Luniverse’s multi-chain Web3 API allows developers to easily build decentralized applications and deploy them across multiple blockchain networks through a unified interface.
• Yawn, Co-founder of STEPN, drawing from STEPN’s experience, shared some key learnings from building Web3 games. He noted that the next phase of Web3 is built on hyper-socialization, and the next “holy grail” for games will need to address the infinite lifecycle of NFTs and reduce the entry barriers to zero.
• Shukyee, CMO of Polyhedra, shared how the company powers Web3 games with their new technology, zkBridge. She highlighted the advantages of zkBridge, including trustlessness, security, efficiency, decentralization, scalability, and universality. It will also be able to connect various Web2 and Web3 systems.
• Sami CHLAGOU, the co-founder and CEO of Cross the Ages, delved into how the collectible card game “Cross the Ages” continuously offers value to its players. He highlighted that the transition from Web2 to Web3 in the gaming domain would pose significant challenges. Game developers must prioritize user experience, keep the gameplay simple, and craft immersive gaming experiences for their audience.

• Hassan Ahemd, the Singapore Country Director of Coinbase, noted that we are currently in the first phase of Web3 gaming. He believes the next phase will be dedicated game wallets and new NFT standards, but games need to be playable first before considering tokenization and monetization.
• Lennix Lai, Chief Business Officer of OKX, added that the next phase of development will focus on the infrastructure for casual and hyper-casual games for mass enjoyment, and the foundational layer should be more game-friendly.
• Minh Ho, BD Director of Coin98, mentioned that blockchain is just one component of game infrastructure. While Rollups might be trending, the key is to integrate elements like NFTs into games, as not everything needs to be on-chain.
• Sanjay Popli, Co-founder of Cryptomind, suggested that the next phase in gaming won’t be about tokens but NFT-related products and other game projects. However, these projects need to address three key issues: inefficiency in game economics, short-term value expansion (many users but unsustainable), and revenue generation challenges.

Which Game Genre is The Best Fit for Blockchain Gaming?

• Vera, a special council member of Apecoin DAO, emphasized that understanding the audience and designing a token economy for the Web3 gaming community is crucial from a developer’s perspective. However, staying focused and deepening user understanding is even more important.
• Dreamer, Co-founder of Defi Kingdom, pointed out the complexities and high entry barriers of blockchain games, making it challenging for new players to start with Web3. He believes the growing value of digital collectibles might encourage players to venture into Web3 games.
• Lucaz Lee, CEO and Co-founder of Affyn, believes that Web3 games have significantly altered the industry landscape. To encourage adoption, game design must prioritize customer experience.
• William Guo, CEO and Co-founder of PlayEstates, noted that card collection games and their P2E mechanisms will continue to have a healthy market presence. However, collaborations are needed to address the scalability issues of Web3.
• Mary Ma, Co-founder and CSO of MixMarvel, holds a more optimistic view on Web3 games. She believes that many emerging Web3 technologies allow users to enjoy Web3 games using social or email records and is confident that more Web2 users will eventually adopt Web3 games.

Is There Still Demand From VCs for Web3 Gaming?

• Kelvin Koh, Co-founder and CIO of The Spartan Group, believes that if tokens are used correctly, developers can expect exponential user growth. However, he feels the current market is pessimistic and advises realism.
• Jason, Founder of Folius Ventures, highlighted the soaring customer acquisition costs in gaming. He mentioned that some Web2 games have mistakenly incorporated random Web3 features, which he sees as an unviable investment approach.
• James, Venture Capital Director at Animoca Ventures, stated that many talented game developers are entering the Web3 space. For Web3 games seeking funding, his advice is to avoid overvaluation and understand the ecosystem.
• Wesley, Founder of Rootz Labs, emphasized the importance of the ecosystem and stack layers, sharing about Rootz Lab’s recent investment in a new reputation system. He added that crypto games seeking funding need patience and flexibility and should understand the differences between the crypto community and the gaming industry.

How Public Chains Build and Support Gaming Ecosystem？

• Alvin Kan, the Asia Regional Director of Sei Foundation, believes that the user experience for Web3 games should be more user-friendly. He looks forward to seeing games share assets like NFTs and have a centralized marketplace, which would greatly enhance interoperability between games.
• Mr. Walter, the Web3 Gaming Director of BNB Chain, pointed out that DAOs can help shape games, especially esports games, in terms of governance. However, he cautioned that the complete transparency of DAOs means that projects are public and suggested considering a hybrid model where some developer decisions can be made internally.
• Hazel Zhang, the Investment and Financing Director of AELF, remains optimistic about games and offers venture capital and project funding for them. However, she believes that not all games are suitable for having a DAO.
• John Cho, the Vice President of Development at Klaytn Foundation, stated that developers need support in user acquisition. He anticipates that traditional 3A game studios and conventional game players will transition to the Web3 domain, while players and developers more focused on crypto elements will venture into GameFi.

Amidst the sharing from industry luminaries, ThreeDAO held the launch ceremony for its Creator Training Camp at the conference. In the future, over 50 creators will join the camp. These creators will receive guidance from a coaching team comprised of Web3 industry leaders, embarking on an exciting Web3 journey.

It has been several months since we dedicated space to the crypto horoscope written by Stefania Stimolo, an expert in astrology and blockchain. It is a weekly column with the horoscope of each zodiac sign available every Sunday only on The Cryptonomist. 

In our slogan of “Reporting the Future,” we wanted to delve deeper into the topic, playfully speaking, with this entertaining column. 

The crypto horoscope

We call it the crypto horoscope for the simple fact that the industry’s terminology is used. 

Words such as NFT, metaverse and Over-The-Counter to describe actions and scenarios, but also trading terminology such as bullish, bull run, bear market or dump to identify the mood of each zodiac sign during the days of the week.

Of course, you cannot miss the famous to-the-moon to indicate the mood of that sign! 

In general, you may be experiencing a “hard-fork” period, meaning “inner split,” or passing your lightning torch to the next zodiac sign, meaning the Sun is passing to the next sign. 

Or you simply need to reflect on certain situations that go into “verify” meaning when the planet is in dissonance to the zodiac sign. Not only that, with each new change of the Sun’s guard through the constellations of the zodiac, each sign’s roadmap will touch a new step. 

Of course, no investment advice is given; instead, it is pure entertainment, just like any other horoscope. It is worth mentioning that there are many industry beginners who have also understood the specific crypto terminology thanks to the horoscope on The Cryptonomist.

Linea Entertainment Festival Details

On September 5th, 2023, we’re set to kick off the Linea Entertainment Festival alongside all gaming projects and enthusiasts. This event will unfold in two phases, each lasting two weeks, and will feature collaborations with multiple top-tier gaming projects on Linea.

During each phase, we’ll launch Communities in tandem with the participating projects of that phase, setting up a variety of on-chain and off-chain quests. Gaming aficionados can join these Communities, complete quests, and accumulate CPs to earn Token/NFT rewards from the projects. 

Additionally, we will host AMAs, inviting gaming projects to present their initiatives and discuss insights into the blockchain gaming industry. Concurrently, during the Korea Blockchain Week and Token2049, we will organize two offline side events centered on blockchain gaming. These events aim to introduce the Linea gaming ecosystem to blockchain game developers and enthusiasts, and to delve into the trajectory of the sector’s growth.

This week will be characterized by the transit of the new Sun in Libra from Saturday 23 September.
