Red Packets 2.0: Taking NFTs Mainstream

A red packet, also known as a “red envelope,” is a traditional Chinese monetary gift that is usually given during holidays or special occasions. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck, and the money inside the red packet is a symbol of good fortune and prosperity. In early 2021, Loopring took this idea and expanded upon it; instead of placing physical cash inside, we enabled our users to share ERC-20 tokens. Now in 2023, we are taking this one step further by allowing users to gift NFTs (ERC-1155).

Creating NFT Red Packets

Users of the Loopring Wallet will feel right at home when preparing to share the new NFT red packets. Similar to sending standard ERC-20 tokens, you can send and receive red packets to anyone with a Loopring L2 account via a custom QR code. You can also specify the NFT, how many editions to send, and the number of recipients.

This means airdrops, games, ticketing providers, and others will be able to distribute 1 million+ NFTs for just a few cents. Recipients will have up to three (3) days after the Red Packet expires to claim their NFT for a small fee. After that time, any unclaimed NFTs will be automatically returned to the Sender.

Blind Box Red Packets

We are thrilled to present Blind Box Red Packets, an innovative and exciting variation of the traditional Red Packet. With this blind distribution, you can generate even more excitement and anticipation among recipients. Each recipient must wait until the specified time to reveal the contents of their Red Packet. Some packets will contain an NFT gift, while others will be empty.

Blind Box Red Packets are the perfect fit for giveaways that involve an element of chance. Everyone loves the feeling of anticipation and the opportunity to win a fun and potentially valuable NFT. A bit of randomness and luck are a nice break from everyday routine and allow you to enjoy the moment.

They also provide a new and innovative method for distributing airdrops to random addresses. Simply create a Blind Box Red Packet for just pennies, allowing thousands of people to scan the QR code and have a chance to receive your NFT. This is a fraction of the cost than traditional methods, while providing a fun and interactive way to engage with your community.

We look forward to seeing what types of events and giveaways the L2 community comes up with!

Red Packets on the Web

Along with this release, we’re also enabling full support for Red Packets on loopring.io! That means you can create and receive Red Packets whether or not you have a Loopring Wallet or are using an EOA with an activated Loopring L2 account. When receiving a Private Red Packet, simply import the QR code and open.

We’re really excited to see how the community leverages this new feature to enhance both social and gaming experiences. A few use cases that come to mind:

Personalized POAP-like Experience: Reward your participation in ETH events, concerts, meetups, and metaverse events with NFTs.

Innovative Gaming Experience: Immerse yourself in hours of puzzle-solving or leveling up in a game and receive NFTs as a reward for your efforts. Game developers now have the tools to seamlessly reward their users with unique and collectible assets.

On-chain Treasure Hunt: Take your gaming experience where NFTs can be used as a foundational piece for treasure hunt items in alternate reality games (ARGs). QR codes can be hidden in unexpected places, such as secret rooms in the metaverse or physical locations in the real world.

We believe this technology will be a pivotal aspect of web3 gaming and can’t wait to see how developers and builders will use it to create innovative and engaging experiences.

NFT Red Packet Scavenger Hunt

To coincide with the launch of our NFT Red Packets, we’re announcing an online scavenger hunt. Hidden in various locations are 5 distinctive NFTs, each with its own unique QR code. Get ready to embark on an exciting journey with our NFT Red Packet scavenger hunt!

For Loopring Smart Wallet users, simply scan the QR code below. For EOA wallets, please take a screenshot of the QR code and import it on loopring.io.

Introducing Loopring Wearables

https://medium.loopring.io/introducing-loopring-wearables-85210b84642?source=rss----5e4ab2ca952b---4

Back in April 2022, we announced a new line of Loopring branded wearables that our community could take into the metaverse. In order to win the first of these wearables, a t-shirt, you needed to either have the highest trading volume or win the Lucky Draw. The 1,000 winners of the competition have been patiently waiting — we’re now ready to provide an update.

Since the announcement, we have taken a step back to think about not only what we want the wearable to represent but also about what our community deserves. Rather than distributing an NFT that only works with Decentraland, we wanted to provide a high-quality wearable along with a mechanism to access its files to take it anywhere and everywhere.

That process led to partnering with Protocol:Gemini / Cyber Crew and an amazing creator, Lukas Hahn (https://loopexchange.art/collection/loopring-x-lukas-hahn).

The Jacket

During the concept and design process, we decided to pivot from the t-shirt concept and shift to a jacket. Additionally, we wanted to make three versions:

LH Edition Cyberrunner SE L2–01

  • 1,000 editions
  • Signature Edition — reserved for the original wearable winners

LH Edition Cyberrunner L2–02

  • 2,000 editions
  • reward mechanics to be announced at a later date

LH Edition Cyberrunner L2–03

  • 5,000 editions
  • reward mechanics to be announced at a later date

The Signature Edition jackets should now be in the winners’ wallets already! If you haven’t received yours yet, it’s on the way.

Wait…there’s more?

It goes without saying the amount of time between the original announcement and now has been longer than originally anticipated. That’s why along with the Signature Edition Jacket, the 1,000 wearable winners will also receive a Loopring hoverboard created in collaboration with Tanashi from ZXT Labs (https://loopexchange.art/collection/loopring-x-zxt) and handcrafted by Tyrone.

The Hoverboard

There are 7 versions of the ZXT Loopring Surfer (L2–01 — L2–07); each version has 5,000 editions. Along with rewarding the wearable winners, we wanted to take a moment to thank the early supporters of Loopring who created a smart contract wallet and repped a Loopring subdomain (.loopring.eth).

At this time, just shy of 20,000 Loopring L2 members have a Loopring ENS — all of these addresses will be receiving a brand new hoverboard!

The distribution to the wearable winners + ENS holders will be randomized — meaning any recipient can receive any hoverboard. The remaining hoverboards (~14,000) will be distributed to the next Loopring ENS holders until we run out. In fact, our engineers are building a tool that will automatically transfer users a random hoverboard once they assign a Loopring ENS to their wallet!

The initial recipients (1,000 wearable winners + ENS holders) should receive theirs in the next few days!

One more thing…

After working with Lukas on the jacket, we got the ‘wearables itch’ and couldn’t just stop there. We felt that the best compliment to an amazing jacket would be an incredible pair of shoes. We are excited to announce another collaboration with Thed Holes (https://loopexchange.art/collection/loopring-x-thed-holes). We were blown away when looking at Thed’s concepts and final designs.

Similar to the jacket, we decided to make three versions of the shoes:

  • EXO-KIX LE L2–01–1,000 editions
  • reward mechanics to be announced at a later date
  • EXO-KIX L2–02–2,000 editions
  • reward mechanics to be announced at a later date
  • EXO-KIX L2–03–5,000 editions
  • reward mechanics to be announced at a later date

Show off in the verse

While the NFTs themselves are amazing on their own, we wanted to ensure our community can take these items with them wherever they go. Through our partnership with Protocol: Gemini (founder is also the co-founder of Cyber Crew), all wearable and hoverboard recipients will be able to go to the Cyber Crew website (https://cybercrewnft.io/) to download the items’ files. These files will allow for easy import into Unreal Engine and metaverses. For the sake of transparency, the files will not be available at the time of the airdrop; they will be made available based on current production timelines and are subject to change. We would love to hear from the community what metaverses you want to show them off in!

How can I get one if I didn’t win?

Additionally, we wanted to ensure that those in the community that didn’t win could still get their hands on these items if the winners didn’t want them. Therefore, all items will be listed on LoopExchange (https://loopexchange.art/) within each artists’ collections. If an original recipient doesn’t want theirs, they can easily list it for sale on LoopExchange and safely/securely sell it.

Wrapping up

While it did take longer than expected, we really hope you’re as excited for these items as we are to airdrop them to you. We couldn’t be happier to provide high-quality wearables and utility to our community. We appreciate all of our supporters and can’t wait to share more of what we have been working on.
